Zork Green Tip 19 - Why Weather Stripping is Sexy
Earthling, we understand that some of you want to make a green statement by wearing green fashions and driving green cars. You desire to look good, smart and sexy to other Earthlings.
We do not understand why appearances are so important to humans. We do not wear clothing on our planet, and other Earthlings do not wear clothing. But humans spend so much time on looking good that now even my wife Meera is becoming corrupted by your fashion-minded mentality. This is not logical to me.
Sure, we want you to be green like us and wear environmentally friendly and fashionable products. And driving a hybrid motor vehicle is the right thing to do. However...
There is something you could do to help the planet Earth which will not be visible to others, except on your energy bill.
Human, plug the holes in your dwelling so that hot or cool energy does not escape it. It may not look like a sexy green thing to do because other Earthlings may not see you being green minded, but it will be nice to see your energy bill reduced by 30%.
Earthlings waste 30% of energy and dollars
by not taking care of cracks in their dwellings and having poor
insulation. Weather-stripping may not the most exciting green thing but
the outcome is significant to your planet.
Stellar things you can do to be sexy and green:
Caulking, Weather Stripping and Air Sealing
1. Weather strip and caulk all doors and windows to keep cold and heat out. This can save 30-40% on your energy bill.
2. Use rubber or foam weather stripping to fill the gaps around your doors and windows.
3. Weather stripping tape sticks directly to your door and window frames to seal out the weather.
4. Use rubber or foam bottom seals to fill gaps beneath doors.
5. Add a door sweep to stop drafts under your doors.
6. Check your mail slots, chimney flues, breaker box and outlets on exterior walls. You might find leaks in those tricky places as well.
Insulation
1. Be sure you have enough insulation in your walls, floors and attic.
2. R-30 insulation in ceilings is recommended.
3. Insulate your pipes.
Seal your house and use the 30% you save on your energy bill for something more useful and fun.
If you must show off your green-ness, wear a shirt that says Zork Says: Weather Stripping is Sexy to Satisfy your Green Fashion Desires.

Good tip for us earthlings Zork, but I want to know where I can get a giant band-aid like the one in your photo?
